I've been waiting to write this post. Memang sengaja pilih tarikh yang tak jauh dari tarikh interview medic untuk pelajar asasi sains hayat Unimas tahun 2017 ini. Ini nak bagitau, saya lepasan asasi Unimas jugak batch ke-6 dan harap post yang panjang ini dapat bantu. 

General interview tips & skill

• Wear formal (baju kurung itu kalau boleh cari yang agak plain yang tak banyak corak, even better warna yang agak gelap, lelaki pakai baju kemeja. Kalau ada blazer pun okay, tak ada pun okay - dulu saya tak pakai blazer gak masa interview, so no worries. Jubah is not formal)

• Bring personal file (file yang letak sijil itu), dan letak sijil-sijil yang penting + kalau rajin buat CV sekali) Kalau boleh, jangan letak sijil yang boleh backfire korang time iv contohnya "sijil hafazan" pastu nanti iv suruh kau baca surah Baqarah ayat 72 kalau kau tak mampu cane? Tapi kalau yakin dengan kemampuan teruskan. 

• Sit straight & jangan sandar pada kerusi (menunjukkan rasa minat)

• Kurangkan pergerakan yang tak perlu (macam goyang kaki), tunjukkan muka konfiden walaupun jawapan salah. 

• Maintain eye contact & address the interviewer properly if you know his / her title

• Usually the interview is conducted in English, don't mind your grammar too much, speak confidently.

• Make sure your make up is light, if you don't wear make up it's fine, you don't have to. Be careful of body odour too ahaha. Just maintain good hygiene. 

• Isi perut sebelum interview!

General tips sangat penting. Orang kata first impression. Ada orang kata, sebenarnya dalam jangka 2 saat itu dah menentukan iv itu lulus ke tak. 

Questions that were asked by my interviewer :

1. Introduce yourself
2. What is your long term goal?
3. Introduce your family members 
4. Why do you want to be a doctor?
5. What makes you different than others?
6. How can you give benefits to Faculty of medicine if you are accepted to be a medical student?
7. Do you have any question?

Other questions & tips given by my lecturer for the interview :

1. Introduce yourself (Soalan wajib)

You can :      - tell your name 

                     - Age, origin, highest qualification (asasi/matriks/stpm)

                     - maybe short term / long term goals

                     - hobby (if your hobby is interesting, if just eating / sleeping don't mind telling them)

Make it short & sweet. 

2. Why do you want to be a doctor? (Soalan paling expected)

Come on, tell your reasonable reasons & make sure IKHLAS. Tak perlu nak cuba cari reason yang lain daripada lain untuk buat diri menonjol, just ikhlas. What sparks you when you think of wanting to be a doctor? - ask this question to yourself! And if you have no interest in medic (because your parents asked you to) or whatsoever, this question can help you to escape. Medicine need passionate peoples because it's tiring & long journey (not really glamorous at all). 

3. Soalan fakta (ikut nasib dapat ke tak) :

• What do you know about faculty medicine in Unimas?
• What is the full name of this faculty?
• Who is the dean of the faculty, Chancellor of unimas, vice chancellor of Unimas, Minister of Health, Deputy minister of health, Dean of PPPU (if you're asasi Unimas), Chief minister of Sarawak
• What are the current issue of health problem (make sure you know what you gonna talk / bring about, usually they won't ask medical questions but if you bring it up, they might ask about what you say)
• With your medical knowledge, what can you do to help the society?

4. Soalan perangkap

• Can you handle stress?
• Why are your grades so low?
• Why do you choose Sarawak / Unimas to study?
• How do you see yourself in 10 years time 
• Between doctor & family, which one you choose first?
• There are many medical students out there, still waiting for their housemanships. Some didn't have job yet. Are you sure you want to be medical students? Okay for this question, Imma help you. If the government had already have overfloaded doctors, why would public universities still accepting new medical students every year? 
• Why must I select you out of 120 students?
• Generally soalan-soalan situasi. 

I would like to express my gratitude to my lecturer, Sir Fairuz for helping us making through the interview sessions. 

Apapun, I will gradually add the points to this post if there's any additional points. But one important note is : You need to expect the unexpected. 

For asasi Unimas students, your interview was probably done before your final exam right? Don't forget to score your final exam too, you are not 100% confirmed-to-be medical students. Grades also give a major role here, because there's a lot of interview candidates that they need to choose from.
